I sometimes wonder when we go and sell ourselves saying we are "Solution Providers". Do we actually mean it?

The other day I was going back home and there is this huge pit on my way back which is disrupting traffic and pedestrians. Since this is next to a traffic signal, people waiting to cross the roads take the wait time to crib about the same. well, I too was part of it on that day when a person just said, there is this piece of wood lying in that corner, why dont we just keep it across this wide pit so that people can just walk over it?

I was stunned with the quick presence of mind and went forward to help this guy but the wooden plank. That saved me 10 mins to reach home, coz else I would have taken a round about route coz of the pit. The next day when I was passing by the route, I realised a Solution was provided and that man was the solution provider and I was in the implementation team.

In Consulting Industry, though we use the term Solution Providers, what we end up doing is implementing the solution which the business has already thought of. This is where we need to buikd a niche.

I dont deny that Business knows the best ways to resolve their current crisis. However since we are beneffited with some knowledge in Technologies, we should give them alternate solutions and that when we can term ourselves "Solution Providers".

So I have decided that whenever I get a project to be done and the client asks me to build a solution, I shall give him at least 3 more ways to do the same and thus behave like a TRUE Solution Provider that just Implementers.

Thought?????
